Music Video Analysis ONE

Name of track: Come Alive
Artist: Hanni El Khatib

Genre: 50s/60s, blues
Characteristics: .Artist/band/star image show throughout the video
                            .Usually has a narrative
.Close-ups of the artists are common

Relationship between lyrics and visuals?
The lyrics to the song relate to the video through narrative, I think the anger of the girl character illustrates the lyrics through anger and rebellion. For example the lyrics talk about 'lyin' and 'cheatin' whilst the character is showing anger as she storms through the streets of 'Carolina' pushing over drinks and 'rebelling'. Throughout the video the anger from the girl get worst as Hanni himself disturbingly guides the young girl around her town in relation to the beat of the song getting faster and loader.

Relationship between music and visuals?
I don't feel there is a massive relation between the music and the visual apart from 0:53 - 0:57 in the video where we see a close up of the girl whilst the beat of the music stops. This shows dis-juncture  however I think the Hanni was more interested in a strong narrative of himself and the girl causing havoc.

Are there close-ups of the artists and star image motifs?
There is one close up of the main motif being the girl in the video. This panning close up is during a gap in the music and the lyrics 'aint no love like a love like this cause a love don't exist when a boy wanna play so'. The girls facial expression is showing that she doesn't care about what she is doing and neither about who is watching her. Also in the next clip is where Hanni is introduced after the 'boy wanna play so' lyrics showing that he is going to used her as a 'toy' and later on we she him using her to kill people.

Is there reference to the notion of looking?
The main reference to the notion of looking is the main character, being the young girl, I looking into the camera showing she has no care for who is watching her and the actions she is taking.

Are there inter-textual references?
I think this video is very unique and therefore there is not any inter-textual references from many other videos. The video is similar to Hanni El Khatibs other video in the way that it is very busy including short clips and a lot of them.
